JAGUAR F-PACE R-SPORT | REVIEW

An SUV with the soul of an F-Type?

Compared to its German competitors, Jaguar has always had a difficult time appealing to the masses and its sales have reflected that. Fast forward to the present day, as Jaguar moves into its period of revitalization with a slew of new models, England is finally giving Germany a run for its money. Of all the new models, the most highly anticipated is the F-Pace, the brand’s first-ever SUV and Jaguar is banking hard that it will make strides in the growing SUV market. Being at least a decade behind entering this segment, does the F-Pace even stand a chance? After spending some time with the F-Pace R-Sport, I can say that the answer to that question is an outstanding YES!

With 3 engine choices available ranging from a 2.0-litre I4 turbocharged Diesel that produces 180 hp to the range-topping supercharged 3.0-litre V6 with 380 hp, our F-Pace R-Sport was the middle-level model with a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 engine that produces 340 hp. The same supercharged V6 engine found in the F-Pace is the same one used in F-type making our tester capable of reaching 0-100km/h in a respectable 5.8 seconds. Like the majority of modern-day vehicles, the F-Pace was able to switch out of different driving modes, from Eco, Normal and Dynamic. No matter which mode was selected, the F-Pace was no slouch, but once the gear toggle was turned switched to Sport and Dynamic mode was selected, the F-Pace really shines. Handling becomes more responsive, shifts are quicker and even its exhaust note defines why Jaguar decided to have the first letter of their first SUV model be an F to associate it more with its F-type range.

Everywhere the F-Pace was driven, you can see heads being turned due to its beautiful lines and proportions and parking the vehicle in public spaces oftentimes drew the attention and curiosity of bystanders as they approached the vehicle asking questions about it. Its simplistic interior features the latest technology that one could need, the F-Pace also featured Jaguar’s new infotainment system that is lightyears more advanced than the one found in older Jaguar models. It’s very good, but it could be just a bit better in comparison to its competitors. As for the actual size of the vehicle, it is slotted between the X3 and X5 and provides a terrific substantial amount of interior space for a vehicle that does not look very large from the exterior that will most definitely make it a popular choice for families.

From its sophisticated exterior, simple yet spacious interior and a potent engine with its pleasant exhaust note, there is no doubt in mind the F-Pace will be a real winner among consumers. A new era has begun for Jaguar, and this is only the beginning of greater things to come!
