2020 MONTREAL INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW | HIGHLIGHTS

On January 17th, 2020, the Montreal International Auto Show opened its doors to the public for the 77th time. Previously held at the Olympic Stadium (before the roof collapsed…oops) and Place Bonaventure, the show has occupied the Palais des Congrès de Montréal since 2003.

Unsurprisingly, the 2020 edition of the show had the most hybrid and electric cars under its roof thanks to a new attraction called the “The Electric Zone” that was housed on the 7th floor. As usual, the MIAS had many unveilings, highlights, as well as Canadian and North American premieres – see my Top 10 List below!

1 – PORSCHE TAYCAN

One of the most awaited cars of the show certainly was Porsche’s first electric car, the Taycan. Having made its Canadian Premiere at the MIAS, it was possible to see the Taycan in its two fastest versions, the 650-horsepower Turbo and the 750-horsepower Turbo S. I wouldn’t be surprised if several people went to the show just to see those two cars. Well done, Porsche!

2FORD MUSTANG MACH-E

Here’s one that caused quite the controversy when Ford first unveiled it to the public: the fully electric Mustang Mach-E. Focused on coupes & convertibles since the Mustang’s launch in 1964, Ford thought it could take the famous sub-brand to a new level. This new level is known as the Mustang Mach-e, and it’s both the first 100% electric Mustang and the first-ever Mustang SUV. The Mach-E was one of the most popular vehicles of the entire show.

3 – LEXUS LC CONVERTIBLE CONCEPT

Entering production soon, the Lexus LC Convertible Concept certainly turned a few heads when it made its Canadian Premiere at the MIAS. Featuring the LC’s already exquisite design, the roofless look gives it a more sensual look.

4 – LAND ROVER DEFENDER

I don’t know about you, but the brand-new 2020 Land Rover Defender was probably the car I was the most excited to see. In typical Defender fashion, this completely new iteration features a modern boxy look complete with 21st-century technology, and, most importantly, the impressive off-road capabilities that Land Rover is known for.

5 – CHEVROLET CORVETTE

Speaking of controversial cars, another notable Canadian Premiere of the MIAS was the Chevrolet C8 Corvette. Having a mid-engine set up for the first time ever and no manual transmission, several purists were left in shock. Overall, the car has received mixed reviews. Even though I hated it at first when I saw the launch photos, after seeing it in person, I do think the C8 is a good-looking car when correctly specced.

6THE BLACK BOX PRESENTED BY OB PRESTIGE AUTO

Back for a second year, the Black Box was once again a fan favourite at the show. Featuring for a second time two of OB Prestige’s most high-valued cars, the Pagani Huayra Roadster and the McLaren Senna, the Black Box was probably the most photographed part of the entire show.

7- MCLAREN SENNA CAN-AM

As if OB’s Senna was not enough, McLaren Montréal decided to display one, too. Though this was no ordinary Senna; say hello to the 1 of 3 Senna Can-Am. Exclusive to the Canadian market, the slightly more powerful Can-Am features a unique paint scheme and exhaust as well as other details. It is now on display at the McLaren Montréal showroom and will be roaming the province’s streets when summer comes back around.

8 – HYUNDAI 45 CONCEPT

One of the most interesting cars of the show was the Hyundai 45 Concept. This electric car features a retro design and very sharp edges. Hyundai describes it as an SUV, which I think is debatable. That doesn’t keep it from being one of the most photogenic cars.

9 – BMW M2 CS
Faster, lighter and better looking, the M2 CS is the best M2 yet. Increased horsepower, new bumpers, different wheels and a unique interior are just a few of the upgrades from the standard M2.

10 – GENESIS MINT CONCEPT
Taking its name from its Hunter Green matte paint, the Genesis Mint Concept is a two-seat electric car designed for the city. Its sleek interior and unique ‘trunk’ certainly caught the attention of many visitors.
